Love it or hate it, it’s a fact we all need to wee and we all want to make our toilet cassette last as long as we can when we’re off grid. Hence we use wee bottles! I use the Pitch & Trek female urinal with mine for easier use.
I have the same set up in my micro camper as well.
Tash is a proud Ambassador for FreshWipes – Biodegradable body wipes for adults. These are AMAZING! They are perfect for when you don’t have access to a shower. One wipe does the whole body. You know we’ve been using Solbio for a couple of years now plus I use it in my micro camper. It’s environmentally friendly and because it has no chemicals, it can be used in any type of elsan point, even septic tanks. It’s also safe if accidentally swallowed by children or pets as it does no harm if ingested. Plus it won’t stain if its spilled.
We like to have a diluted solution in a small spray bottle to use as a toilet bowl freshener.
Electrical
We upgraded our old power bank to this Anker Powercore Slim Power Bank and its been fantastic. It can do 4 full phone charges & is also handy for charging headphones, GoPro’s, torches etc. Plus it has multiple types of inputs
I now have an Anker MagSafe Power Bank too which attaches to the back of my phone case and means I can charge with no wires. It also means the phone is still useable while charging plus it has a built in stand.
We also bought a 3-in-1 multi charge cable. It has Micro USB, USB-C and Lightning so we can cut down on the amount of cables we have in the van.
Even though we have a full 24v off grid system and charging points around the motorhome, having a power bank also proves very useful for extra power or for working outside (Jon uses it all the time while he’s working on installs).
We have recently upgraded to the new Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 and it’s been great. We also purchased the 12v charging cable so we can charge the unit while we drive.
I’ve also upgraded my existing Lacie rugged thunderbolt hard drive to a 2TB USB-C version. These are amazing; portable but super tough and are drop, dust and water resistant!
We have these Blink Wireless Security Cameras to keep an eye on the van & the cats!
Outdoor Equipment
We’ve got the RidgeMonkey Connect Compact XL and it’s brilliant. We tried an imitation one to see if we would use it enough and ended up upgrading to the official RidgeMonkey. We love the detachable lid; it’s versatile for cooking (use it as a separate pan) and it’s so much easier to clean.
A lightweight, folding camping table is a must and so useful. This Bo-camp one we’ve recently upgraded to is perfect. It’s a sturdy table with adjustable legs, but it folds up really small and packs away in its own bag. Plus, it’s up and down in seconds so no faffing about.
Safety
Fire Safety Stick – This one is super important. We did have a ‘FirePal’ on board but we didn’t realise it was out of date. We mistakenly thought it had a longer shelf life. Once we got chatting to the guys at Fire Safety Stick, we checked it. We then realised it was only an 8 second discharge. The FSS comes in either 25, 50 or 100 second discharge time plus they are smaller and light.
We have a break glass hammer in here, hopefully we never have to use it but it gives us peace of mind.
Homeware
Ok this one may not seem like an essential to everyone but it is for us! Since upgrading our inverter and solar power, we’ve upgraded our coffee machine.
This Nespresso Essenza Mini is perfect and fits in what was the wine glass cabinet in our Frankia. You can also use Lidl’s own equivalent pods in there too, keeping costs down.
With a good coffee machine, comes good coffee pod holders! These lightweight, self adhesive ones are perfect. We have them on the side of the machine.
We cook on electric as much as we can and we’ve now upgraded our air fryer game, big time
The Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 has been revolutionary. It is portable enough to fit in the motorhome but also has 2 different sized glass cooking dishes so we can cook for one or for two. It’s only 1700 watt as well so we can run it straight from our electrical install
Even though we have our beloved Dyson V8, we still use a dustpan and brush for everyday crumbs and dust. We find a little one like this is perfect for the motorhome and the slim brush is great for getting in the nooks better.
I bought this Groom Here shaver on a whim but it’s been brilliant for in the motorhome. It saves faffing about in the shower shaving my legs and its USB-C rechargeable which is a bonus
We use this laundry bag with carry strap. It’s so handy for taking to the launderette because you can roll the top and carry it like a bag. Plus it doubles up as a luggage bag if you ever need to pack some things and leave the motorhome quickly!
Tash uses a Super Sparrow Stainless Steel Bottle every day. It’s so handy for filling up at drinking water taps and saves on buying loads of bottles. It also keeps hot drinks super hot and cold drinks perfectly chilled.
At first we were sceptical about the Eco Camel Shower Head but now we wouldn’t be without it. It makes a difference & gives a much better shower experience without using loads of water. We use the JetStorm model in the van and we even had the Orbit model in the house.
Cat Accessories
Because we can’t have a cat tree in here, we have this sisal scratch board attached to the table leg and scratch boards on the floor and the girls love it! The cardboard infill is reversible so it has double the lifespan. If it’s approved by our girls, it must be good.
We attach Apple AirTags to the Cat’s collars (using holders similar to these) to keep a track on them when they are out off harnesses.
We use these FURminators to de-shed the girl’s coats and keep their coats smooth and shiny. We have one for our long hair girl and one for our short hair girl.
We have two of these self cleaning lint brushes in the van (with 3 cats, it’s a necessity!) and they are great for everything from clothes to blankets.
Among our arsenal of hair remover tools, we have this metal, double sided one. It is tougher so perfect for carpets & the girl’s beloved dash blanket.
We use these small Flexi retractable leads for when we take the cats out for a walk on their harnesses. Great to be able to let them roam a bit further or keep them close depending on where we are. We have pink ones though, of course.
For walking the cats safely on their leads, we have these mesh pet harnesses from Pets at Home. They are actually small dog ones but the fit is ideal and comfortable. They have a reflective trim and are easy to get on and off (We have different colours, 1 for each Cat).
We have 3 folding style cat carriers similar to this for travel. 2x smaller ones and 1x larger one so they are size/weight appropriate. Folding ones are so much easier to pop in the garage when we’re stopped and they have multiple openings for easy access.
Motorhome Upgrades
The Maxx Air Maxx Fan is a brilliant addition to the Motorhome. It creates a cool airflow through the van and can be used even when its raining. You can blow air out or in and set different fan speeds. Its fantastic when cooking as well to blow all smells and disperse any heat.
We purchased and added an Autoterm Diesel heater to our motorhome. It is an additional heating source alongside our factory installed Truma system. This helps extend our time off grid and reduces our LPG usage. Plus, the diesel heater is an effective way to heat the motorhome quickly.
We’ve installed a Van Guardian system to our motorhome for extra peace of mind. It was easy to fit ourselves and we’ve been so pleased with it.
