Hitting reset before hitting the road in the Motorhome

The Motorhome was clean. The food drawer was stocked. The fresh water tank was filled. We were ready for the off as the day we had been waiting for had finally arrived – Freedom day!!

We could finally hit the road, go where we please. No more being stationary in one place! What did we end up doing with our newly regained freedom you ask? Well… we moved to another campsite and didn’t move for a week of course. Oh the irony.

The countdown

Many people had been counting down to April 12th and we were no different. Lockdown felt as though it went on forever and whilst we respect the restrictions, we have have been more than ready for a while now to get moving again. After all, we didn’t embark on this journey to sit still! So why is that the first thing we chose to do?

Where to first?

Our list of ‘to visit’ places grew again during lockdown and we couldn’t decide where to go first. It was almost like the prospect of being allowed to go where we wanted now was all a bit much. Do we start local in Shropshire and go to some of the hot spots we had been teased with for the past 6 months? (We have seen so many AMAZING looking buildings, Castles, Abbeys & Pubs sat closed, empty and practically begging us to visit!)

Or do we head further afield and then save the local goodies for when we go back later on (to earn more travel funds!)?

Whilst we were deciding all of this we realised that actually, we just wanted a break. Jon had been working his socks off the whole time and I had been trying to spin far too many plates with online courses, content creation and helping out at his work.

What we needed was to hit the reset button.

Back to basics

Aside from getting to explore, one of our favourite elements of Motorhome travel is that ‘getting away from it all’ feeling. The one where you have your home with you and all of your comforts yet you get to disconnect. Relax. Switch off.

You have everything you need and you can focus purely on what’s happening around you in that moment and not worry about anything else.

That, above all, was exactly what we wanted to start off our next chapter.

Better the devil you know

Where better to enjoy our week of relaxation than at Willow Fields campsite in Haxey, North Lincolnshire. Its the perfect place for some tranquility. They have Chickens, Turkeys, Sheep and the cutest little Lambs there to see as well as Diesel the owners dog and Cat, the site Cat. There are also some beautiful walks to do in the surrounding countryside yet the local Pub and Co-op are only a 20 minute walk from the site.

Catching Up

We also knew a few of our friends were staying as well so over various points of the week so we had the most amazing time catching up with everyone. You would think we there wasn’t much to talk about seeing as everyone has been on lockdown but actually, the pure excitement of being allowed out and talking about future travel plans meant we didn’t stop talking!

We also got to meet some new faces which was amazing as, at the end of the day, meeting like minded people is what its all about. It doesn’t matter if you travel in a Motorhome, Campervan, Overlander or even a Tent! We all have a common interest.

The sense of community is fantastic and as the campsite filled up for its opening weekend, it was heart warming to see everyone chatting and getting to know each other. We were also blessed with amazing weather which was the icing on the cake.

Time to go go go!

Now our week is over and it’s time to hit the road, we are going to tag along with our friends Daz, John & Mandy for a couple of days as they make their way South. We’re aiming to do some Motorhome pub stopovers as we are all really keen to support the businesses that have been hit so hard. Then we will head off on our own adventures which, at this point, are still not planned. We will simply go where the wind takes us!
