Why Motorhome staycations are exactly what the UK needs

Hopefully you’re all as excited as we are to be hitting the open road very, very soon. (At the time of writing this there are, in fact, only 2 days left until we can officially travel again)

Wether you call it a staycation, a holiday, a holistay or a UK getaway, more people than ever will be spending their vacation time in the UK this year. For some that means staying at home and planning lots of days out and for others it means packing up the car and heading to holiday parks and cottages.

A large percentage of people though, will be vacationing in a Motorhome, Campervan or Caravan. For many, it will be their first time!

As foreign holidays remain very uncertain, the Motorhome sales market has continued to see a rise in sales in 2021 and is showing no signs of slowing down. It seems a lot of people have realised how awesome Motorhome travel is and want get in on a piece of the Motorhome Staycation action!

Working 9-5

As some of you may or may not know, we have been working at an independent Motorhome and Campervan sales dealer. We were grateful for the opportunity as our travel plans were non existent in the current climate.

During lockdown, Jon was still able to work because they were allowed to operate a ‘click & collect’ service, the same as many automotive dealers. Neither enquiries nor sales slowed down during this time so there was plenty to be getting on with.

We’ve loved the buzz of speaking to potential and new Motorhome owners and sharing our knowledge. We are also really pleased with what this means for the UK economy.

Shutdown Overnight

There are so many sectors that suffered greatly during the pandemic because overnight, all of their work and income was cancelled. The hospitality, leisure and tourism industries were some of them. Last summer many operations were allowed to re-open and many businesses saw an increase in trading. It was back to square one by November, however, as lockdown restrictions came in to force again.

This is why, for us personally, the rise in ‘Staycationers’ this year is going to be amazing. It means holiday makers will be spending their money right here at home and providing a much needed boost to so many UK businesses.

The Plan Is No Plan

As previously mentioned, we haven’t made any plans for this year. We are quite happy to go with the flow as part of our touring style is to stop in places we see along the way. We’ve said it before but we stick by it; it’s the best way to find the hidden gems! Plus we are hoping to make the most of Pub Stopovers which don’t generally require pre-booking.

Doorstep Discovery

We are so excited for people who would normally jet off on holiday to see just what the UK has to offer. We elected to tour the UK for 12 months instead of Europe because we wanted to do just that. There is so much beauty, rich history and culture here and we have found that Motor-homing and Sightseeing really do go hand in hand.

There are many gorgeous heritage sites, pubs, restaurants, cafes, country parks, coastal snugs and amazing campsites all waiting to welcome us back and we can’t wait!
